Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) is hopeful about the Social Determinants Accelerator Act, a bill she’s cosponsored to help get funding directly to communities for the purpose of addressing social determinants of health.
The bipartisan bill, among other proposed legislation, got airtime late last week during a hearing of the House Committee on Energy & Commerce. Specifically, the hearing touched on appropriations for a pilot program born out of the legislation.
“If you took a listen to the Energy & Commerce Committee today, we literally had eight members on that committee, Republicans and Democrats, who are co-sponsors and spoke out in favor of the Social Determinants Accelerator Act,” Bustos told PatientEngagementHIT in a phone call after the hearing. “We’ve worked really, really hard to make sure that we have bipartisan support of this. You could hear that support in today’s hearing.”
