Growth Of Value-Based Care And Accountable Care Organizations In 2022

Value-based care encompasses a broad variety of payment models in which health care providers are incentivized to provide better care at lower costs. Eleven years ago, we began presenting information on accountable care organizations (ACOs) including the count of distinct organizations entering into accountable care contracts and the number and distribution of lives covered by these arrangements. ACOs, one model in which providers take responsibility for the overall cost and quality outcomes of a defined population, continue to exist and do remarkable things improving health care delivery, but they are not the only type of value-based care models that exist today. In this article, we will provide an overview of current value-based activity as well as updated ACO data.
